Little Dry Creek Trail

Two weeks ago Saturday I decided I wanted to take a long walk on the weekend. It was only about 5C, but sunny, so I figured it would be fine. I bundled up in my coat and thermal jeans. I wasn’t 100% certain where I would go. I am trying to get to know my new surroundings, so I usually just walk from home. I decided to try walking along this nearby trail, which I learned is called the Little Dry Creek Trail. According to Google Maps, I could walk along this trail to the nearest library, which is just over a one hour walk. I had been thinking it might be nice to try working from the library sometimes to get out of the house. Having a walk and getting out of the house could be nice. I haven’t tried working there yet, but I thought it would be nice to see how feasible it is. I made it to the library in a little under an hour, walking quite briskly. I had brought my backpack with two water bottles, an apple, and a couple cheese sandwiches, with homemade bread. I stopped for a few minutes to have a sandwich and drink some water, then I decided to keep going. It looked like about another hour to the natural grocers store, where I could buy some rye flour. That was almost all trails as well. I got the last two packages of rye flour, plus also some barley flour, and a few other things which looked interesting, including some hops water. I drank that on the way home. It was not terrible, but not that exciting either. On the way home I walked around the Indian Hills golf course (and was surprised to see people golfing), then up the church ditch trail. Eventually I ended up back on the Little Dry Creek Trail for the last part of the walk. I walked about 17 kilometers in about 4 hours. I called my parents on the last leg of the walk.

On Sunday, it was warm and sunny, around 12C. I decided to try taking a bike ride for the first time since my bike accident on December 28th, in which I hurt my right knee quite bad. I was not certain how far I would go – maybe just around the block if it hurt too much. To my delight, there was almost no pain, so I kept going. I ended up finding myself on the Little Dry Creek Trail again, which is nice on the bike as well as on foot. Both on Saturday and Sunday I passed quite a few other people walking, mostly in pairs, either two people or a person and dog. I think I saw a few other bike riders too, but not that many. This time I did not bike as far east as I had walked on Saturday. Instead, I headed south on Simms St. to the Ralston Valley Trail, then headed back on west on that trail. I stopped at the Apex fitness center, and timed how long it took to bike home from there, out of curiosity. I did it in 21 minutes. It is mostly uphilll, so quite strenuous. I would imagine that biking to the Apex from home would probably only take 15 minutes.
